SSL Certificates and SEO on Your Site?

Google’s finally made its so.  Web sites that are made to be secure and use SSL will now get a rankings boost in the search engine results pages (SERPs).  From my reading on their official blog they say that it’ll effect less then 1% of searches so that means it’s likely to be a very small factor currently but seeing as security is of top importance these days we can see that changing to be a bigger factor in the future.

So now it’s “How do I get an SSL and secure site now?” as everyone rushes to get on the SSL bandwagon.  That’s ok as we’re here to help.  We can install an SSL certificate for you.  We make sure everything is secure, that you’re site is getting that extra little boost from Google for being secure, and that it won’t cost an arm and a leg.

So what’s the cost for an SSL?  Well they change based on where they are bought, what the host requires, and what the web site needs.  Most hosting providers offer SSL certificates but they greatly vary in price which makes it hard to quote a price for just web sites in general.  Also there’s different types of SSL certificates that are available.  The most common and widely used is a wild card SSL which should cover most web sites but not all.  It’s best to contact us for the current rates, to find out what’s needed for your site, and what else is needed.   Some hosting companies and providers ask for the web site to get an unique IP address which can also be an additional expense to consider.

So the next real question is when Bing will start giving a boost as well.  We’re assuming soon!

Give us a shout and we’ll get you all set up with a bright and shiny new SSL!
